The Repast Tradition, Honored

The repast, also written repass, is the meal after the service. This hall exists for it.

  • Not a funeral home
  • Homegoing celebrations welcome
  • Christian based and led

For generations the repast, also written repass, has been the meal after the service, where neighbors, extended family and friends surround the grieving family with food and time. Sacred Farewells is a gathering venue and not a funeral home: the service happens elsewhere, no body is present, and this hall exists for the meal, the stories and the long afternoon a family needs with its own people.

Homegoing celebrations are welcome here and are served with the reverence they deserve. Sacred Farewells is Christian based and led, and families are welcome to fill the room with the music, worship and traditions a homegoing calls for.

Restrooms are on the same level as the hall, a few steps from the tables, which matters for older relatives who stay the whole afternoon. The foyer at the entrance is where guests are greeted and where a guest book waits with Enhanced and Legacy.

Planning the Repast Menu

Tell the team how many guests and what needs refrigeration. The kitchen is ready when the first dish arrives.

  • Covered dishes welcome
  • Coffee and water with Enhanced and Legacy
  • Serving tables set by staff

Most families serve the dishes the person was known for, brought by relatives and neighbors in covered dishes. The kitchen keeps them warm and the staff set out the serving tables. For families who would rather not cook, drop-off catering from $15 per person is arranged with the team and finalized before the day. Coffee and water service comes with Enhanced Celebration and Legacy Tribute. Tell the team roughly how many guests to expect and whether any dishes need refrigeration, and the kitchen is ready when the first dish arrives.

How the Day Runs

  1. The Sacred Farewells serving kitchen with counters, a stove and a serving table ready

    The Kitchen Is Ready

The serving kitchen beside the hall is where dishes are kept warm, and where the staff stage the serving line before the family arrives from the service.

  2. Long tables with white cloths and chairs set in rows in the Sacred Farewells hall

    Long Tables, Set and Waiting

Long tables with white cloths run the length of the hall with chairs on both sides, pitchers of tea on each, so a large family sits together in one room.

  3. Covered casserole dishes and cornbread on the Sacred Farewells kitchen counter

    The Dishes They Loved

Home-cooked dishes or drop-off catering go out on the serving table. The staff set out the serving tables so the family does not have to.

  4. A cloth-covered table with coffee cups and a slice of pound cake near the front of the Sacred Farewells hall

    The Long Afternoon

The meal becomes an afternoon of stories. Coffee stays out, the chairs turn toward each other, and the staff clear the room only when the family is done.

Questions

Something else on your mind? Call (954) 471-3965.

Is it repast or repass?

Both words mean the same gathering: the meal after the service. Repast is the dictionary spelling and repass is the way many families say and print it. Sacred Farewells welcomes both.

How long can the family stay for a repast?

Three hours with Basic and Enhanced Celebration, four with Legacy Tribute. Extra hours are $200 each, arranged before the day.

Is there space for a very large extended family?

Yes. The sanctuary seats up to 300 and the reception space is set for your guest count, so aunts, uncles, cousins and the whole extended family can gather in one building.

Who serves and cleans up after the meal?

The staff set the serving tables before guests arrive, keep the room comfortable and handle all of the cleanup afterward, so no relative spends the repast working in the back.

Can we use the kitchen?

The serving kitchen keeps dishes warm or cold and stages the serving line. Family-brought food and drop-off catering are both welcome.

Who pays for the repast?

Usually the immediate family, often with help from relatives and friends. A 25% deposit holds the date here and the balance is due about seven days before.
